Approved Food is an online discount food retailer that sells products near or past their best before date, as well as some fresh produce, including vegetables. It is the UK's largest online retailer for short-dated and residual stock.

Insect biomass conversion (or insect farming) is an emerging practice, where waste is fed directly to insects. These in turn convert low value biomass into higher value insect mass, rich in proteins, fats and chitin. These can in turn be used as sustainable inputs for a variety of sectors, most notably high quality animal feeds demanded by the aquaculture sector & premium pet food markets.

Food Heroes. The project name is sound and clear. It focuses on innovative food entrepreneurs working on the reduction of food losses in the ‘neglected’ first parts of the food chain. This project works across three food sectors (fish, meat and fruit & vegetables). The aim will be to prevent food being produced for human consumption to degradate in the food waste pyramid to a lower value level.

We are a volunteer group, taking surplus food and turning it into daily meal packs, delivered across Edinburgh. These packs contain Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, along with some snacks. They are designed to be balanced meals, with enough calories to ensure the most vulnerable are staying fed. We also offer hot food to take away. Both of these services are completely free for users, and available 7 days.

Luvyum is dedicated to reducing food waste through rescuing food from all food businesses, including independent food sellers, through our app and connecting to consumers. We are running an international movement with universities, schools, businesses and people to make an on-ground impact.

Insects, especially flies, have the potential to help meet the demand for sustainable protein sources. Fly larvae are a natural component of the diet of fish, chickens and pigs. PROteINSECT focuses on rearing two species of fly and conducting feeding trials with these animals. The larvae, grown on a range of organic wastes, can also reduce the volume of that waste by up to 60%, providing an additional benefit.

Our market place is an app that connects consumers with businesses who have surplus food so no food goes to waste.

UnderstockMe is a B2B surplus food platform. We connect producers and suppliers of quality food to commercial buyers such as restaurants, meal delivery services and retail. We aggregate smaller buying orders into wholesale requests, moving the excess inventory quicker.
